About Asia

My take on the practice and teachings of yoga have been changed as time goes by.

At first, it was about using yoga as an exercise tool to feel good about myself, which drew me to the Ashtanga yoga (Certified by David Swenson, 2002) and Hatha yoga (Teachers of Yoga, Sheridan College, 2001).

Then I have discovered that the practice is much more than the exercise. That led me to the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (Certified as a Yoga Teacher, 2005 and as a Practitioner, 2006) and Kripalu yoga (Professional Level Certified Yoga Teacher, 2008) which greatly helped me to heal and nurture my inner being.

My seeking continued by taking a trip to India as a pilgrim, visiting various holy goddess sites with the Sri Vidya study group led by Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Ph.D. Himalayan International Institute (2009). Along the way I have learned to meditate in various forms; sitting, walking, using a mantra and Metta (Loving Kindness). But I felt that something is missing...

I have felt just 'right' when I attended the Yoga Master, Aadil Palkhivala's workshops at the Toronto Yoga Conference in March 2010. But of course, I needed more than what he taught at that time. With his recommendation I was fortunate enough to attend the Purna Yoga Retreat at the Omega Center in October 2010. There, I met Savitri, the Master Meditation (Kundalini) Teacher who actually experienced and living very diverse situations and feelings in her physical (medical and otherwise), emotional, mental and spiritual body. She taught the meditation techniques in very simple way that anyone can get access to Self in very short time using the Breath, Movements, Intention and Self-Talk.

Aadil and Savitri opened my eyes to know that I needed to have on-going teacher/s to guide me (to grow, to elevate and to keep my ego in check) after practicing 14 years and teaching for 10 years.

After that retreat, enrolled to 2 years of intensive program with Aadil at the College of Purna Yoga (Only yoga {vocational} college registered with the State of Washington). Now, I teach Purna Yoga after graduating from the College of Purna Yoga (2000 hour Certificate Program, June 2012).

I continue my study with the master teachers, Aadil Palkhivala (www.aadil.com) and Savitri in Bellevue, near Seattle, WA. Received my full fledged 2ooo hour "certified" distinction in July 2014 after graduating in June 2012 (There are two categories: graduate and certified. To become a certified, one has to be approved by the masters that one is worthy and ready to be one, not just finished the program. There are only 3 of us in Canada with that title; two in Vancouver, BC and Asia in Burlington, ON.
